There are many different forms of motor control. These range from simple "Direct on line" starters, right up to
"Variable Speed Drives". The type of Motor control which is used, will depend on the application, Energy saving considerations,
Initial Budget and Possible expansion.
"Direct On Line starters" - These starters provide the simplest form of motor starting, best used for smaller motors,
where control of motor speed, and initial starting current are not important.
"Star Delta Starters" - These starters provide a two stage starting capability, best used for small to medium size motors,
where control of motor speed is not important, but initial starting current could cause problems.
"Soft Starters" - These starters provide a very smooth, adjustable ramp up, and ramp down capability, best used for small
to very large motors, where control of motor speed is not important, but factors such as initial starting current
and water hammer could cause problems.
"Variable Speed Drives" - These starters provide complete control of motors, ideal for all size motors, where complete control
of the motor is needed. Some applications include, Pressure or Flow sustaining pumping systems, Conveyer Belts, Sites with poor
power capacity and sites where a three phase motor needs to be installed, but only single phase power is available.
